Monhegan Island – ULTIMATE Apocalypse Bug Out Location?
Monhegan Island is a remote island off the coast of Maine. It was been used as a bug out island in the 1600s to escape an attack, but could it be used as a bug out location today? We will look at Monhegan as a case study to see how remote islands like it would work as safe havens to escape to during SHTF, doomsday, or any other type of apocalypse.

7 Threats Seniors Face When SHTF (and what to do about it)
Просмотров 152 тыс.21 день назад
Seniors citizens must start prepping because they face more risks and dangers after a crisis, disaster, societal collapse, or other SHTF event. They also have unique responsibilities that people in other age groups may not have. I cover 7 unique threats and factors that are unique to senior preppers. Older adults should pay attention to these and note the 3 solutions I offer for addressing each...

I looked thru some of your videos. I was thinking that a topic which might be a good one to cover is how to prep as a single person. I know its preferable to try to team up with others prior to some catastrophic event, but sometimes, this wont end up being possible or, it could be that plans won't go as expected. Let's face it, they often dont...especially in emergency situations. It would be good to know how to prep for or just get some tips on the best way to prep for and/or survive the possibility of being alone during a shtf event. Maybe you already did a video on this topic but I didn't see it?

I'm 71 (female) and retired military, armed. I have been prepping for years. I'm pretty good for about a year+, but my house isn't that big so storing stuff is limited. I lift weights, walk 2-3 miles daily and do pilates to try and keep in my best shape. I don't take many phama drugs.. just one for HBP which isn't very high anyway. I have about a year worth of meds. I do live in a gated 55+ community in a semi rural area. Many people that live here are retired doctors, police, firemen so I feel if the worst happened we would pull together and put all our skills to use. . I feel pretty well prepared. I'm continually adding what I can to my preps.

Very good video thanks for sharing. One thing I would recommend is for people to stock up on freeze dried food. It is more expensive but it has a tremendous long shelflife and that’s is where it is so beneficial personally I do my own food and I buy long-term foods as well, thanks for sharing your video and your good advice. God bless you and yours. God bless all of America and all the people in this world. The key to this crisis that were about to go into is being prepared.

Store high quality grass fed butter. It's not expensive, it never goes off, and you can live on it and nothing else for a while. It stimulates production of ketones, which are much healthier than glucose. Buy high quality organic flour - you dont use as much, so extra cost is evened out. Store beans, either cans or dried, plus lentils, which are more nutritious even than red beans. plan a network of contacts, including to reach out to family, as once the net goes down, there's mostly nothing else.

I am 79 and subscribed, because you give good common sense, workable advice, keeping in mind that most people are of modest or even no means - thinking of working people. Your advice about community is SPOT ON! Some notes: High protein dried foods: lentils, legumes, soybeans, beans (all types), garbanzo beans - any kind of bean. Whole grain (not white) rice (many varieties). Sprouts - mung beans, alfalfa, etc. Think Wild West. Stock water. For practice: cut power for two or three weeks, and act accordingly. If possible, get basic solar system - available for about $200 from Harbor freight. Heat - wood/coal.

If you end up taking in an older person, their calorie intake is less than someone who is much younger. So if you're weighing how food intake will be reduced and affect the survival of your group, that consideration might be of some help. Have the elder doing the light(er) duties of keeping the cook fire going, stirring the cook-pot, watching the young 'uns or feeding the baby animals, keeping records, planning the gardens... that frees up time for the strong ones to go out and do the heavy work, knowing that dinner will be there when they come in. You can't work hard all day then come in and start the dried beans to boiling, they won't be cooked fast enough.

I would not use an oxygen absorber with pet food, because the dry kibble has too high of moisture content and you are risking botulism. Best thing to do is stock canned dog/cat food and even putting up rice for your pet so you can add it to the canned food to "stretch" it. Dry kibble has a short best buy date and will go rancid. So, best to store canned dog/cat food.

Other than stocking up on dry foods, seeds and water,...PHYSICAL and MENTAL READINESS will be essential. Can you keep calm when things are going on all around you? Can you think clearly? Plan all strategies ahead of time and have back ups for your back ups, rinse and repeat. Try to think like the enemy so you'll know what to hide or do. They will use all of their senses, not just their eyes. They'll smell food cooking. They'll hear talking, movement, walking....be as stealth as you can be. They'll see smoke. They'll notice a wet spot on the ground.

Thanks for the video. But I had to max out me headset to hear you. You need to fix your volume. Us old folks are hard of hearing. An Old Man 65. With some old wisdom. You are leaving a lot of things out. On meds. There meany plants and spices that work well you can use to get by. Like Cinnamon for diabetes, it can be used to lower blood sugar levels and AC1 levels. But you need to buy the correct type of Cinnamon. And make it correctly. Garlic is good to help lower blood pressure. And it's easy to grow. Ther are meany other plants that can be used in leu of pharmaceuticals that can keep you alive. Honey is a good antiseptic for cuts, scratches, and burns. And as a good sweetener for your food. Ethical Prepper on You Tube has a good book on plants for meds. So does a lady educated in Botany named Maria Treben called "Health Through Gods Pharmacy". On commo. A good Satellite Phone is easier than a Hamm Radio, and you don't need an operator's licenses to use it. And unless the enemy takes out our satellites, it will work anywhere you go. Like South America. But a Ham Radio works too. On firearms. Maney seasoned citizens do not have the upper body strength to use a 44 MAG hand cannon. Or a 12 Gage shotgun that may dislocate your shoulder. A good 410 shotgun is a good defensive weapon that can be used to take down a deer, or a rabbit, or Turtle Doves. And it won't dislocate one's shoulder like a 12 Gage shotgun. Or a .22 Caliber will kill a man if hit in the right place, and it won't break your wrist. As for food purchases and storage. Your Church would be a good place to start to get help. Start a food pantry. Maney business will donate to a church. And the SHTF may be a Great Depression again. And it works on the doner system. As to pets. A good dog is an extra set of eyes and ears at night and can be a good watch dog, and companion. An OAF Disabled veteran has a good small solar powered generator that will work good for seniors during SHTF. And it's not as expansive as some gas or diesel generators. About 500 dollars and it comes with a solar panel to charge it up. But it only weights about 25 lbs. A good emergency generator.

I wonder how seniors are going to carry a bug out bag (or anything really) if they have to be mobile. Which is a huge possibility. Even in a natural disaster I wonder how people in the city will get past the gridlock of traffic. Of course we can't prepare for, or foresee every single scenario, but I think it's important to think about the fact that we may not be able to stay in our homes, where we have everything stocked up. I understand that's why people have bug out bags, but that brings me back to the original statement... I wonder how we'll be able to not only carry things, but be mobile enough to survive. I'm sure that there's a huge difference between rural and urban survival techniques.
